Tips For The Homeless

Written by ThreadOfTheDay.com on September 30, 2008 in: People | Tags: , ,

If you are currently homeless, or ever find yourself homeless, Dumpster Dave has some advice for you. He has been on the streets for nine years, and he knows a trick or two to make it more comfortable.

Here is his thread in the forums of homeless.org.au

http://forums.homeless.org.au/showthread.php?t=2116

Tip number one should be applied to everybody, not just the homeless. Find a good pair of footwear.

This thread contains several other great tips. Most of us will probably never be homeless, knock on wood, but anything is possible.

If you browse through the other threads in this forum, you will see that the homeless are not really different than those of us more fortunate. Many of them were in horrible situations where the only place to get away was the streets. Some may have made poor choices to help cope with reality, such as drug use. However they got there, homeless people are still human beings with compassion looking to get through the daily grind like the rest of us.

Bailout Fails in the House

Written by ThreadOfTheDay.com on September 29, 2008 in: finance | Tags: , , , , , , , ,

I generally don’t like to cover major news stories here on ThreadOfTheDay.com.  There are already millions of sites that do that, and I like to be a little original. But today it is hard for me to avoid. The economy right now is scaring me.

The DOW Jones dropped 777.68 points today, the worst single day point decline in history. Seven doesn’t seem like a very lucky number anymore. Have we reached bottom or is it going to get much worse? Could we slip into the Great Depression II. I am not an economics expert, but I don’t think even they know the answers.

The experts in the WallStreetOasis.com forum are raging mad that the government bailout plan of the financial institutions did not pass. They think this is the only way to save the economy. They could be right, or things might just turn around on their own.

I agree with them on many points in this thread:

http://www.wallstreetoasis.com/forums/bailout-fails-in-the-house

One poster said it probably failed because the elections are just over a month away and the Representatives are scared to do anything drastic that could hurt their re-election bids. Another member says it should be called an “asset purchase” instead of a “bail out”. Very good points.

What will happen next? I have no clue. I’m just happy I don’t need my 401K for another 30 years. I think things will recover by then.

Fart Fetish

Written by ThreadOfTheDay.com on September 27, 2008 in: Weird | Tags: , , , ,

Today’s thread is very weird and gross. There are guys out there that have an unusual fetish. They get turned on by girls farting. There are even videos that cater to them. I am not pulling your leg, or finger.

In the forum at gassyerotica.com, a website exclusively for guys with this strange fetish, they discuss who their favorite sexy video girls are and why.

Cop Bloopers

Written by ThreadOfTheDay.com on September 24, 2008 in: police | Tags: , , , , , , , , , ,

Officer.com has a forum where police officers discuss their jobs. In this thread they compare stupid things they have done while on duty.

http://forums.officer.com/forums/showthread.php?t=98040

There are stories of locking themselves out of the squad car while a suspect is in the back seat and even locking themselves in while cleaning the back seat. One sergeant was reprimanding a rookie officer after he made what could have been a deadly mistake. He warned his officer to “always be aware of your surroundings” then immediately walks into a glass wall.

One policeman had the evidence, a bag of weed he confiscated from the criminal in the back seat, fly out the window while driving down the highway. Another had a bear take a bite out of his steering wheel. He even got a picture of the bear.

There are quite a few funny stories in this thread. Make sure you catch the one about the tube an officer pulled out of a suspect’s pocket. A definate must read.

Strange Things We Believed As Kids

Written by ThreadOfTheDay.com on September 23, 2008 in: kids | Tags: , , , ,

When you are a kid and still learning the basics of life, you can have some strange ideas about the world. The members of the unexplained-mysteries.com forum admit some weird things they used to believe.

http://www.unexplained-mysteries.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=135056

Highlights include the kid who thought picking belly button lint could make the belly come undone and he would fly around the room flapping like a broken balloon. Another poster thought the world was black and white a long time ago.

One woman had a father who would watch football on Sundays. She thought one game lasted the entire day. It wasn’t until she was married, and her new husband wanted to wait until a game was over to go out, that she found out her dad was watching several games throughout the day.

So far this thread is 13 pages long and growing of weird stuff people believed as kids.

I used to think a teenager was a person who was half boy and half girl. I have no idea how I came up with that concept.

Skydivers Vs. Neighbor McNasty

Written by ThreadOfTheDay.com on September 22, 2008 in: sports | Tags: , , , , , ,

A skydiver at the DropZone.com forum brings up an interesting legal question. He has jumped at a drop zone that has an unfriendly neighbor, aka Neighbor McNasty.

Occasionally, an errant parachutist may land on this man’s property, or even just close by then cross the property line while running out their landing. The neighbor got fed up with this and has erected a menacing fence. One with solid steel poles and topped with barbed wire.

Surely, Neighbor McNasty knows the barbed wire could seriously injure a skydiver. Is he legally liable if that happens, or is it a completely reasonable way to keep out trespassers.

I believe, legally, this property owner has just as much right to use barbed wire as anybody else. It is not his fault if a skydiver lands on it. They are the ones assuming the risk in this risky activity. However, morally, it may be wrong. A solid fence without barbed wire is adequate.

So, I am undecided on this issue. I guess you could say I’m on the fence.

Hint; the war between England and France was not 100 years.
