Make Cars That Can’t Speed

Written by ThreadOfTheDay.com on September 9, 2008 in: cars | Tags: , , , , , , , , , ,

Speeding is the cause of a high percentage of automobile accidents. Many cars can do 200mph or more, but the speed limit is 65mph. So what is the purpose of having a car that goes that fast. You are only breaking the law if you do.

Some people are proposing the idea of installing devices in cars that limits their speed. Today’s forum thread is at motortrend.com where they discuss this idea:

http://forums.motortrend.com/70/7037666/the-general-forum/should-cars-be-electronically-limited-to-max-speed/index.html

As you would guess, a forum for car lovers is not for this idea at all. In my opinion, the Motor Trend members don’t give any compelling arguments why a car’s speed should not be limited, but for some reason I tend to agree with them anyways.

I can’t imagine a high performance sports car being limited to 65 or 75 mph. It would be like the jockeys in the Kentucky Derby keeping the horses at a trot. Where’s the excitement in that?

Evolution of the Jonas Brothers

Written by ThreadOfTheDay.com on September 8, 2008 in: music | Tags: , , , , ,

The Jonas Brothers are the latest boy band fad. Their earliest fans have seen them come a long way. In today’s thread at jonasbrothersfans.com, some fans discuss how they have changed over the last couple years. Is it because they have matured, or is it because they are now too commercialized?

http://jonasbrothersfan.com/Community/Forum/tabid/265/forumid/43/threadid/751893/scope/posts/threadpage/1/Default.aspx

Whatever it is, Disney will make as many millions as they can while they are busy in their Dr. Frankenstein like laboratory creating their next teen idol.

IT’S ALIVE! IT’S ALIVE! IT’S ALIVE!

p.s. No offense to the Jonas Brothers or their fans. From what little I have seen of them, they aren’t too bad compared to popular boy bands of the past.

Coach Passengers Using First Class Restrooms

Written by ThreadOfTheDay.com on September 7, 2008 in: Travel | Tags: , , , , ,

Today’s Thread Of The Day is at the flyertalk.com forum:

http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/showthread.php?t=856838

They are debating if it is okay for coach passengers on an airplane to use the restroom facilities of the first class cabin.

First of all, let me say that I believe first class is one of the biggest scams there is. Yes, the seats are more comfortable, and you have a little extra room. You get a semi-decent meal, and a couple drinks included.

But, is it worth hundreds or thousands more than a coach ticket? Heck no. They give you about one square foot of extra room for a short time. Big deal. You can buy a nice couch for your house for less money than that, and it is even more comfortable. In fact, a person could pay the mortgage or rent on a decent sized house for a month for less money than that extra square foot they give you for a couple hours on the airplane. You would still have money left over for a few nice meals and a couple bottles of wine.

I am not a rich man. But, if I were, I would not be wasting my hard earned money on the first class scam. I can tolerate a coach seat for a few hours. However, when the airline wants to upgrade me for free, I take it of course.

With that being said, first class passengers have the right to overpay for their seats. It helps to subsidize some of the amazingly low prices us coach passengers pay.  They pay good money, and should not have to share their restroom with the other passengers. If coach passengers don’t like being exluded, then they should buy a first class ticket next time.

Summer Snow Predictions

Hurricane Ike is now a major category 4 hurricane wreaking havoc in the Caribbean and heading for Florida. Tropical storm Hanna is causing major flooding in the East Coast. Millions of refuges in the Gulf coast are just now returning after the massive evacuation due to hurricane Gustav.

You would think the weather fanatics at easternuswx.com would have plenty to talk about right now. Nope. Even though it is still officially summer, they are making predictions on how much snow the biggest storms will bring to their hometowns this winter and when.

Here is the thread at that forum:

I predict 6-8 inches for my town around Valentine’s day.

15 Minute Crush Rule

Written by ThreadOfTheDay.com on September 5, 2008 in: health | Tags: , , ,

Apparently First Aid responders, even trained paramedics, have a rule about victims crushed in or under heavy objects. If they have been trapped for more than 15 minutes, they are to leave them crushed until an ambulance arrives. It doesn’t matter that the victim is in agony and uncrushing them will relieve some of the pain.

In this thread at the FirstAidCafe.co.uk forum, First Aiders discuss the merits of this rule:

Oh No Ocho Cinco

Written by ThreadOfTheDay.com on September 4, 2008 in: Football,sports | Tags: , , , , ,

Today is the opening kickoff to the new NFL season. So today’s thread of the day takes us to a football forum where Bengal fans discuss this latest piece of news.

At first I thought this was a joke, but unfortunately it is not. The Cincinatti Bengals’ Chad Johnson has legally changed his name to Chad Ocho Cinco. Ocho Cinco means “eight five” in Spanish which is his jersey number. The “Johnson” on his uniform will now be replaced with “Ocho Cinco”.

He should have went with the more technically correct “Ochenta y Cinco” which is “Eighty Five” in Spanish. I guess it doesn’t have the same ring to it.  Oh well, the important thing is I’m sure he will sell millions of jerseys now.

Here’s what Bengal fans are saying about it:

Caught Shoplifting at Wal-Mart

Written by ThreadOfTheDay.com on September 3, 2008 in: crime,retail,Wal-mart | Tags: , , , ,

ThreadOfTheDay.com is finally back. I took much more time off from the computer than anticipated.

We start back with this thread at RipOffReport.com. It has been going on for years, and would take hours to read every single post, especially the ramblings of the man who started it.

He got caught eating merchandise at Wal-Mart and not paying for it. He claims he did pay and thinks pounding on his Bible hard enough will convince everybody else.  He claims Wal-Mart is out to get Christians and mentions what a good Christian he is thousands of time throughout this thread. It is people like him that give true Christians a bad name. He has traced his bloodline to Daniel Boone, so somehow that is supposed to prove his innocence.

He obviously isn’t telling the whole story. He says the merchandise was only $11, but he was hauled off to jail in another county. To me it sounds like he must have a previous record or maybe even warrants. He even states that after he was caught, he offered to pay for any alleged merchandise his “illness” may have caused him to forget, but he knows for a fact that he paid for everything.

Shoplifters always offer to pay after they know they are busted. In their mind, they think that makes it less of a crime. If that was the case, everybody would be doing it. Just go in the store and take whatever you want, the worse that can happen is you have to pay for it.
