Woot Bag Of Crap
I have to mention woot.com again because right now they are in the middle of a Woot-Off. During this special time, they sell a limited amount of one item. When it sells out, they quickly move on to the next item. So during a Woot-Off, they may sell dozens of different products in a day or two instead of the normal one item per day.
The most coveted item for Woot fanatics is “Random Crap”, a.k.a. “Bag of Crap”.
Wooters who order the random crap do not know what they will be getting, but each crap order cost only $1 plus $5 shipping. It is best to order the maximum of three, because shipping is still only $5. Most items in this potluck package are not very exciting, but usually worth more than what you pay. Sometimes much more.
Thousands of Woot members eagerly wait for the rare “Random Crap” sell. The instant woot.com lists it, their servers are overwhelmed. Only a small percentage of members are able to make it through the ordering process. The rest all come to this thread to complain.

The main reason I am writing about this is because I have tried several times in the last couple years to get my hands on these bags of crap. I could never get past the “server busy” screens. Today, somehow, I finally succeeded. I actually was able to order three of them. Most people who were lucky enough to order today’s crap are reporting they could only get one. You can see my post in the thread as “allnicksgone”.
I can’t wait to see what I get. Stay tuned. I will post an update here at ThreadOfTheDay.com when it arrives. Woot, if you read this blog, I’m not picky, but I sure could use a big, flat panel t.v., and a surround sound system, and a printer.
Hmm, I sound like a little kid writing a letter to Santa Claus. That’s what woot will do to you. Make you a kid again.

FedEx shows my bag of crap is scheduled to arrive Friday, November 7th and it weighs 6.3 pounds. Hmmm, maybe it’s not a big tv after all.
Stay tuned….
Update:
I received my bag of crap. Inside was was one JVC video camera bag, and one big flight simulator type joystick, but it’s an older one that uses a port that most computers don’t have anymore.
Also in the package was four cables that connect your computer’s usb to a phone line. Each computer connected to your phone lines can be part of a network. I don’t have working phone lines in my house, but seems like a useful thing for some people.
The package also contained a fm transmitter for sending audio from an mp3 player, computer, or other device to a radio’s fm channel. Just plug it into your mp3 player’s headphone jack, then listen to it on your car or home’s stereo.
I will probably use the bag, and will use the fm transmitter. My cost was $8. Total value in my opinion is approximately $10, so I think I got a good deal.
Today, November 30th, around 5:00 there was another bag of crap offer. I successfully loaded the page and was able to click on the I want one button and made it to the order page, but couldn’t get any further than that without getting a server busy page. Oh well, maybe next time.
congrats on your first b.o.c. Sorry you didn’t get the one yesterday (Nov. 20), but I’m excited that I got one. This is my first one.
Good job Neil. I hope you get something good. Please come back and let us know.
I received my B.O.C. today!!! I got 3 craps, which apparently a lot of stuff:
-4 sansa e2xx series mp3 players (there was only one pair of headphones and one computer adapter/mp3 charger)
-2GB that only plays music from one side of the headphone
-4GB that only plays music from one side of the headphone
-2GB that doesn’t play any sound
-4GB that works perfectly, except it won’t charge
-a external DVD burner, seems to work fine
-a audio read-along book with Mr. T which is a 45 album
-a bicycle burglar alarm that plays AM radio and pick up CB radio, too
-a bluetooth headset
-my bag was a camera bag (the kind you can thread into a belt), but it might be too small for the cameras I have.
So the external DVD burner made it way worth my $8. The bicycle alarm and Mr. T book are hilarious in a gag gift way. And I’ll just work around the mp3 problems: use the no-sound one for a charger for my 4gb working one, and use the other two when I can only listen with one ear anyway (i.e. work). I can also use them as portable hard drives.
I love woot. Good luck to everyone next woot-off.
Awesome Neil!
I love the Mr. T 45 read along. That’s hilarious.
For the mp3 players that only play on one side, you could put the same songs on both, press play at the same time, then listen to each player in each ear.
I got my first BOC from April Fools. I priced everything to be right about $200.
-2 Yay Broccoli t-shirts
-2GB Sansa mp3 player w/expandable memmory
-Texas Air
-Emergency crank Radio/flashlight
-An 8-screwdriver head flashlight combo
-Green Mini Pale
-Jabra Bluetooth headset
-3 FM Transmitters that plug into the antenna port of your radio if you don’t have aux ($20 each on Crutchfield)
-2 random pieces of metal (i think they’re bent guides for a drawer)
not too shabby for my first time.
-Texas Air
-Memorex 4 gig MP3 player and cables (screen is very dim)
-Sansa 4 gig MP3 player E260. Works great
-Red and Blue WOOT USB lights
-Belkin case for Express satellite radio receiver
-6 CDs of video editing software for a camcorder I don’t own. It only works on that camcorder.
Even buying refurbs, the two MP3 players go for about $30-$40 each. Definatly worth the $8.
I’m a handy person, I’ll make my own bag of crap.
