DUI If You Aren’t Driving?

Happy New Year. We took an extended break for the holidays, but are now back with today’s Thread of the Day.

Fredericksburg, Maryland citizens discuss this scenario: You are in your house enjoying alcoholic beverages, then realize you have documents you need to put into your car’s glove compartment. So you go out to the driveway and into the car. An observant police officer sees you in the car and gets suspicious. He approaches, notices you are clearly intoxicated, and have keys in hand. Can he charge you with DUI?

Probably not, but the members of Fredtalk at Fredericksburg.com discuss this and similar scenarios.

Car Totaled While Parked

Written by ThreadOfTheDay.com on October 16, 2008 in: cars | Tags: , , , , , , , ,

There sure are a lot of insurance commercials on TV lately. Where can one learn even more about insurance? An insurance forum of course.

Today’s thread of the day is in the forums of ampminsure.org.

This poor guy walks out to where his car is parked. He finds it has been totaled and there is a police report attached to the door.

Two other cars were involved in an accident then crashed into his parked car. The guy contacts the insurance carriers of those cars. Each company says it wasn’t their client’s fault, they will not pay for damage. His own insurance company can’t pay it because he only had liability coverage.

So he starts this thread seeking advice.

It doesn’t look good so far. The innocent bystanding car’s owner seems ready to give up.

I think both insurance companies should be required to immediately pay one half each to get this guy back in a vehicle. Then decide who was at fault. If that cannot be determined, then they already paid their fair share. Too bad it doesn’t work this way. Instead he would have to spend time and money suing in court, and he doesn’t even know who to sue.
