Laundry Tax
TaxAlmanac.com has a forum where accountants discuss tax issues. In this thread, the tax man wants to know if his client, a massage therapist, can deduct doing laundry in her home machine. She has been deducting $4.00 per load.

Yes, it might cost that much at a laundromat, but $4.00 seems high to me. I’m not a professional, so there is a good chance I am wrong, but I have learned a few thing by doing my own taxes with software. I think at best, she could deduct a percentage of the depreciation on the washing machine, and deduct the laundry detergent if she purchased separate products for her business washings. Deducting part of the water bill would not be possible unless she is able to claim a home office, which isn’t always easy to do.
